Chocolate for breakfast? Mmmm, yes
I spent years believing that being “good” meant denying myself. Purity, discipline, restraint. Then I realized the body isn’t something to be punished into holiness, it’s where the sacred lives. So yes, sometimes my morning begins with chocolate. And I don’t apologize for it.
I love the idea of beginning the morning with something that feels deliciously indulgent: deep chocolate, juicy berries and a creamy little spoonful waiting in the fridge. Breakfast does not have to be austere to be nourishing, beautiful soul.
I would enjoy this for breakfast with extra fruit and something more substantial alongside if I were still hungry, or as a little evening dessert. There is no need to earn it, compensate for it or call it a guilty pleasure. Pleasure is allowed to be part of how we care for ourselves.
Let the berries burst, notice the cocoa, enjoy that soft chia texture. If a quiet moment at the table feels good, take one. If your morning is gloriously chaotic, bring your pudding along. You are not less spiritual because you have places to be.
Let's talk vegan protein, love
Chia seeds contribute some protein, but your choice of plant milk makes a difference too. Soy milk generally provides more protein than typical almond or oat milks; check the label because products vary. Choose a version that works for your allergies and tastes good to you.
For a more protein-rich breakfast, use soy milk and add a spoonful of higher-protein soy yogurt, or enjoy tofu on toast alongside. These are options, not a demand to turn a beautiful breakfast into a calculation. This little pudding is not automatically a high-protein meal just because it contains seeds.
Tiny seeds, thoughtful nourishment
Chia brings fiber and ALA, a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. ALA is not the same as the EPA and DHA found in algae-derived omega-3 products; the body converts only small amounts of ALA to those forms. Lovely seeds, yes. A substitute for every omega-3 consideration, no.
A plant milk fortified with calcium and vitamin B12 can contribute those nutrients. Look at the label rather than assuming every carton is fortified, and follow its instructions about shaking. Berries bring freshness and can contribute vitamin C; their exact nutrient content varies with the fruit and portion.
If fiber-rich foods are new for you, start with a portion that feels comfortable and increase gradually. Always let the chia hydrate in the pudding as instructed, rather than eating a spoonful of dry seeds. Gentle, practical care, not detox promises or hormone-balancing claims.
Your little make-ahead pleasure
Whisk the cocoa with a small splash of milk first so it does not stay powdery. Then give the chia a second good stir after ten minutes. That tiny step helps prevent clumps and makes tomorrow's spoonful so much lovelier.
If the seed texture is not your thing, blend the pudding after it has chilled. Add a little milk if it is too thick. Top with berries just before eating, and check that any chocolate shavings are dairy-free. Make it beautiful for you, not for an imaginary audience.
