A Cruelty-Free Wardrobe: Leather, Silk and Wool Alternatives

Compassion you can wear. How to dress beautifully without leather, silk, wool or fur, and how to choose alternatives that are kind to the earth too.

Dressing with compassion

Beautiful soul, veganism doesn't stop at the plate. What we wrap our bodies in carries a story too. And the good news? You can feel luxurious, sensual and stunning without any animal suffering on your skin.

Instead of leather

Look for cork (soft, water-resistant and gorgeous), apple, cactus and grape "leathers," mushroom-based materials, recycled polyester and quality canvas. Plant-based leathers often still contain some plastic binder, so check the materials list and choose pieces you'll love for years.

Instead of silk

Silk is made by boiling silkworms in their cocoons. For that same fluid, sensual feel, try Tencel (lyocell), cupro, modal, bamboo lyocell, or satin made from recycled polyester. Tencel drapes like a dream on the body.

Instead of wool, down and fur

For warmth: organic cotton, hemp, linen layers, recycled fleece, and plant-based or recycled insulation instead of down. Faux fur exists, but choose it rarely and keep it for years, since it's usually plastic.

Slow fashion, softly

Don't throw out what you already own, love, wear it with gratitude and replace it kindly when it's time. Thrift, swap and buy less but better. Look for labels like PETA-Approved Vegan. The most sustainable wardrobe is the one you already have. Krystal x
